The hunt for the bighorn

I’ve been visiting national parks in North America for the last seven years, completing an ideal coast to coast voyage across almost all the major ones. During my visits I’ve seen plenty of wildlife from common critters to lucky encounters with bigger animals and I was able to get a picture (usually bad and from afar) of all the common finds but one: the bighorn sheep.

With that in mind, this year the bighorn was a real objective, I did not care much about all the others, so I planned to visit all the places where it should be easier to spot one. Not only I missed a picture, but I had never seen one for real even if it was supposed to be common sometimes. I really had to finally find “my” bighorn.

With such anticipation and all the effort to see a bighorn, I feared I was going to miserably fail again and come back highly satisfied by a wonderful experience but with something missing… but with my great surprise and joy I saw many, in different numbers, places and even at close distance!

The shots below were taken in Radium Hot Springs at the entrance of Kootenay NP, at Lake Minnewanka near Banff and in Miette Hot Springs (Jasper NP). Mission completed.
